congratulations!

Appreciate your work. I would request you to enable the on screen keyboard on Gnome to be voice controlled. We say letter by letter including shift+key , ctrl+key, spacebar etc.
Why is this useful?
1. It is very helpful for those people who find difficult to use a keyboard or a mouse.
2. It will allow people who use the English keyboard to type their language to do so with voice. As some of these languages are not very well known (like my own native language of Sinhala) and generally supported by speech engines, speech recognition will take a long while to support such languages.
3. Since the sounds/voice commands required are few and standard, it maybe possible to quickly enable to many languages which are supported by these onscreen keyboards
4. other reasons you may think of, as you are the experts!

Thank you

I have a problem with the software. i am running ubuntu 8.04 and i installed gnome voice control through the synaptic package manager. when i go to add it to a panel i get an error message. the message say “The panel encountered a problem while loading “OAFIID:GNOME_VoiceControlApplet” and then it asks me if i want to delete the applet from my configuration. i have no clue as to how to fix this. i would greatly appreciate it if you could help me.

thanks
kyle

p.s. i plan to use ubuntu in my car but i really need a speech recognition program to do so.

@Kyle:
Are you using English as default language?

@Kyle: The answer is here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=5253985&postcount=10

Hello Raphael, I have a big question of my own: I also installed gnome-volume-control (0.2) from the repo’s in Ubuntu 8.04, as 0.3 won’t compile. Is it possible to assign certain words to commands, by e.g. changing configuration files? For example, I say “computer” and it runs a certain command (nautilus). Can I/you do this?
Thanks for the answer in advance, great job on the software!
